Spend a day investigating Wealden geology with Iain Fletcher. The Albury Down area owes its character to its Cretaceous heritage and the Alpine orogeny.
During the Cretaceous the area was low lying and covered by shallow seas and lagoons in which were deposited layers of contrasting sediments forming beds of chalk, clay and coarse sand. The outer ripples of the ‘Alpine storm’ folded and uplifted the rocks.
The discussion over a good pub lunch will help you to make sense of the complex interplay between geology and geomorphology that makes Albury Down an area of particular interest to Earth scientists.
