This two centre field trip will give an opportunity to examine
part the volcanic area of the Auvergne.

The Chaîne des Puys is characterised by cones, domes and
    maars with basaltic volcanism.

The Mont Dore area is a stratovolcano dating from about 3Ma
ago. Although the adjacent centre of Sancy is younger at
about 1Ma and thought to be a Mount St Helens type of eruption.
Puy da la Vache gives an opportunity to look at effusive volcanism, bombs and associated minerals.

The second part of the itinerary involves a move to the Cantal region, south of the Chaîne des Puys. This is one of the largest stratovolcanos in western Europe with a diameter of about 60km . Typically basalts and trachyandesites. Booking form attached
